Parupally Kashyap and Sayali Gokhale win the National Singles title of badminton.



Parupally Kashyap, the quarterfinalist of London Olympic, beat Ajay Jayaram (21-18, 21-17) in the final of the 77th Senior National Badminton Championship and wins the singles title at Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir on Tuesday (3-10-2012). The match lasted for 45 minutes, “I am happy, actually relieved. I have been waiting for this title for very long. It was a tough match. Ajay and I have been competing against each other since our junior days. He is always a tough competitor to play against,” said Kashyap.


In women’s singles quite unexpectedly Sayali Gokhale, defeated P V Sindhu by 21-15, 15-21, 21-15. The new teenage tennis star of India was getting troubled by her injured knee. The match lasted for 75 minutes. Sayali turned the match around after trailing 2-9 in the opening game. With Sindhu falling prey to a streak of unforced errors, Sayali won 12 points on the trot and eventually moved to 18-10 to virtually seal the game.

In mixed doubles, team of Aparna Balan and Arun Vishnu defeated Ashwini Ponnappa and Tarun K. by 21-13 and 18-21.
In men's doubles Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy B. defeated Akshay Dewalkar and Pranaav Jerry Chopra by 10-21, 21-14 and 21-12.

In Women's doubles team of Aparna Balan and Siki Reddy N. defeated Varsha Belawadi and G.M. Nischitha by 21-11 and 21-13.
